Double Rainbow Over the Pasadena Guitar Center
Here's a video of me reading a brand new short story I wrote.
Hello it’s Dan Ozzi and welcome to ZERO CRED. Subscribe to get all posts sent right to your inbox. Normally I (mostly) write about music but I thought I’d try something a little different today.
Last month I was invited to do a reading at The Book Catapult in San Diego as part of Kevin Kearney’s Small Press Nite series. The other readers were
, , and Caiti Borruso. I don’t do these sorts of things often, mainly because I don’t get invited to. So I figured I should actually try to do a good job, really put no less than 50.1% of my ass into it. I decided to write a brand new story for the occasion. It’s called “Double Rainbow Over the Pasadena Guitar Center” and I thought about reprinting it here but it was written to be read aloud, so I’m including a video of the reading above. It’s about how when you fall in love it makes the city you live in feel brand new again. It’s also about the weird celebrities you run into around Los Angeles.I picked up some zines and books while I was down there. Kevin made a limited run of zines to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Small Press Nite and I snagged a copy. I would link to Small Press Nite but there’s a running theme in the zine about he is too lazy/obstinate to get any sort of Instagram account for it, which I respect.
I also grabbed a copy of Kevin’s novel, How to Keep Time. I probably won’t read it because I already know how to keep time (look at the clock). It’s “a novel about the way we’re all trying to navigate the end of the world, one lost weekend at a time.” Hmm okay okay fine you got me I’ll read it.
